For this brief we have to identify a problem from our individual research and provide an answer to it through the identification of and packaging of a product. We must the resolve this problem in an engaging and interesting way to a specific target audience.
The problem I have identified within my research is that people enjoy receiving handwritten letters however it is very rare these days with the ability to communicate instantly via email, texting and social media sites such as facebook and twitter. People enjoy receiving handwritten letters because they are more personal and something tangible that you can hold and keep and also know that the other person has gone to the effort to write it and post it.
My initial idea is to create a writing set with paper and envelopes to encourage people to start writing to one another, when discussing the idea in interim crit someone mentioned that there are a lot of writing sets out there and I would need to make mine different and stand out to compete with these.
I want to aim my product at young people as in my research I found a lot of young people have never recieved a letter or written one. Rather than creating a writing set I have thought about making some fun postcards as they are a little less formal and perhaps more suited to a younger demographic for this reason yet they are still personal and something to keep.
When discussing this in the crit it was suggested that I create envelopes for these as they are not so personal when others can read the message, it was also suggested that I could add some sort of sticker that you could peel off to reveal the message.
Someone also mentioned that the reason they do not write to people is down to the cost of postage and suggested I could add free post envelopes with my postcards. I like this idea but it kind of contradicts what I found within my research. One of the reasons people enjoy receiving handwritten letters is knowing the effort that the other person has gone to of writing it, getting a stamp and posting it.
I have started looking at other similar products to what I want to create below are some examples of what I have found.
